Do you find art galleries intimidating? Perhaps a bit put off by works of art? Or maybe those artists seem too esoteric? Then spend an afternoon with some of the warmest and fuzziest of the visual arts. BRICKOLAGE* TOUR SERIES is a casual, interactive, and informative introduction to the visual art and art world personalities inhabiting our city’s most creative address.

Tours will be hosted by a range of sparkling and informed personalities - each providing a unique perspective on the 401 experience.

About Your Host
These tours will be conducted by arts administrator, curator, and educator William Huffman. Many know him as the upstanding Associate Director of Toronto Arts Council but Huffman has a past; as former Director of A Space Gallery - one of 401 Richmond’s long-time residents. Huffman will share insights and anecdotes during these unique behind-the-scenes explorations.

About the Building
401 Richmond Street West is a heritage designated industrial building in downtown Toronto that provides space for over 140 artists, cultural producers, and microenterprises. Originally built for the Macdonald Manufacturing Company, famous for their lithography on tins, the building’s arts lineage has been extended to the present day. The space has been adaptively reused and transformed into an arts hub and cultural centre that is home to an eclectic community of artists, publishers, filmmakers, graphic designers, galleries, shops, artisans, businesses, non-profit organizations, and social enterprises. The building is owned and operated by Urbanspace Property Group a mission-driven developer who is committed to maintaining affordable rents at 401 Richmond to support and foster the arts in Toronto.

*Inspired by the term Bricolage: making creative and resourceful use of whatever materials are at hand to produce a piece of art, Brickolage is about the relationship between space and making art.
