Urbanspace Property Group owns and operates two heritage buildings in downtown Toronto. We have been operating 401 Richmond Street West for 17 years, and the Robertson Building at 215 Spadina Avenue since 2002.
As a mission-driven developer Urbanspace Property Group's initiatives are directed toward the preservation and restoration of historic and architecturally significant spaces with the goal of adaptively reusing these buildings to provide commercial opportunities for the creative sector. Urbanspace also incorporates sustainable building efforts and a commitment to environmentally sound practices in the restoration, operation, and maintenance of all its properties. Both buildings provide spaces for the arts and social innovation communities and foster the development of an inspiring integration of commerce, culture and community.
401 Richmond is a commercial property located at the corner of Richmond and Spadina in downtown Toronto and home to a thriving community of 130 cultural producers and micro-enterprises. The century-old tin factory has been lovingly restored to include a courtyard, arts-enriched early learning centre, café, and stunning roof garden. 401 Richmond is the recipient of a 1999 Award of Merit from Toronto Heritage for outstanding adaptive re-use of a historic building.
The Robertson Building at 215 Spadina Avenue is an historic warehouse in downtown Toronto and home to a community of businesses, non-governmental, and social mission organizations. It is also the location for The Centre for Social Innovation that occupies over 18,000 square feet on the first and fourth floors of the building. CSI serves as headquarters for an innovative group of over 50 social organizations and innovators that work to catalyze, inform and support innovations that advance the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of Canadians. A bio-wall (bio-filter green wall) graces the lobby and an extensive green roof, planted with native Ontario wildflowers, affords spectacular views of downtown Toronto.
